Memachaik
- The Mishnah in Masechet Shabbat (73a) lists memachaik as one of the 39 Avot Melachot.
This is defined as scraping or removing a surface to leave a smooth remainder. For example, using sandpaper to smooth wood, or scraping hairs off a piece of leather to make it smooth [1] In the mishkan, memachaik was performed to smooth the ram’s hides after tanning them by removing the hairs [2]
